Suertes del Marques is one of the leading wineries not only in Tenerife but in the whole of Spain. Suertes is the name of the small vineyards that traditionally existed in Tenerife in the backyard and served the needs of every family. The Lima family has been gradually buying such fragmented vineyards in the Valee de la Orotava, north of Tenerife for over 30 years. They started selling the fruit until in 2006 they started producing wine themselves.
In 2008 they began collaborating with Roberto Santana, who later left to build the Envinate project, introducing organic farming and a philosophy of minimal intervention, bringing back to the market the forgotten island with its ancient vineyards, volcanic soils, the unique Cordon T , abandoned terraces and steep slopes. The winery is run today by Jonatan Garcia, going one step further, producing refined wines and putting Tenerife on the world map.
The philosophy of the winery wants to work only with traditional varieties, minimal interventions, indigenous doughs, minimum levels of sulfites and absolute respect for the traditions of the region. All processes are done manually from the vineyard to the winery and stainless steel and concrete tanks and old barrels from 500l to 4500l are used. The winery has 11ha of vineyards and collaborates with other growers in the area in another 15ha of small, fragmented vineyards.
The Suertes del Marques and the Envinate winery have managed to bring to the fore Tenerife's unique pre-drying vineyards and a viticultural tradition that is lost in time. Their wines are a "booty" in the best restaurant lists in the world.
