Domaine de Villaine Rully 1er Cru "Les Champs Cloux" Rouge

79,20 €

Of all the communes within the Cote Chalonnaise, Rully produces more Chardonnay than Pinot Noir. However, the 1er cru Les Champs Cloux is one of Rully's best vineyards for Pinot Noir. It produces wines that are solid, with firm fruit, good structure and significant ageing potential. The vines are up to 65 years old and have southern exposure and steep slopes. The soils are clay-calcareous and lead to a serious style that needs time in bottle to open up. The fruit is darker and spicier, with a hint of animal notes, while the highly structured tannins carry the fruit through to the long finish.

More info

Traditional Burgundian cellar approach, with partial fermentation of whole bunches in oak fermenters for 14 days. This is followed by maturation in barrels from 1 to 5 years old, for a total of 12 months. Concentrated on the nose, which offers complex notes of red cherries, plum and game, while the palate is powerful and quite full-bodied but with freshness and vivacity due to its characteristic acidity. The fruit is fleshy and deep on the palate while the very nice firm tannins need time in bottle to tame.
