Galeyrand Gevrey-Chambertin "La Justice"

132,60 €

The village of "Gevrey-Chambertin" is the northernmost border of the most famous territories of the Côte and one of the most important villages in Burgundy, with the 9 famous grand cru occupying both sides of the road, the famous Route des Grand Crus. The area is the base of Galeyrand and from there produces an amazing trio of classic Gevrey with power, energy. The "La Justice" vineyard is at village level despite being one of the best known in the region, right next to the local high school in the area. Galeyrand's Gevrey Chambertin "La Justice" is from vineyards planted in the 1960s and has a beautiful "sensual" nose with lively energy but a fuller mouthfeel with structured tannins, dark fruit, floral notes and an "underlying" meaty dimension reminiscent of leather.

More info

To the east of the famous D974, the vineyard is located on sandy soils with several stones and the old vines have extremely complex genetic material from mass selection which seems to be able to produce fruit with intense aromas. The tannins have excellent structure, as fine as cigarette paper, but "layered" on multiple levels that make it seem more "compact" and structured. A true Gevrey but with a more delicate dimension, with the vineyard grown using organic and biodynamic practices. At the winemaking level, an approximate 15-20% whole cluster usage is used, fermentation is spontaneous, maceration is done with a combination of punch-downs and pump-overs. The wine is matured for 12-14 months in barrels (20-30% new). It is bottled without clarification, with light filtration if needed and with very low sulfites added only at this stage.
