Champagne Larmandier-Bernier Vieille Vigne du Levant Grand Cru

The stunning hillside of Cramant, the famous grand cru village of Campania in the Cote de Blancs, is a magical place. Vieille Vigne du Levant comes from the part of the hillside that faces south-east which gives completely different wines from the other side of the hill. Here the morning sun rays favour the perfect ripeness of the grapes and give wines full of richness and power in their characteristics. This combined with Vieille Vigne du Levant's 60-85 year old vineyards and biodynamic farming results in a grand cru champagne with amazing volume, richness, minerality and a huge finish, a sign of a truly great wine. The original name of the wine when it was first released in 1988 was Vieille Vigne du Cramant which was changed due to confusion with the term Cremant (traditional method sparkling wines in other regions of Campania). What remains the same is the boundless power, energy and ageing potential of this great bubbly.

More info

The historic "house" has the peculiarity and uniqueness of having vineyards not only around Vertus (the village where they are based) but in most of the leading villages of the Cote de Blanc including Cramant and Avize. For the sensational Vieille Vigne du Levant the grapes, after gentle pressing and clarification of the juice, are transferred to Stockinger oak barrels where fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts. The base wine remains on the lees for a year without filtering or clarification. This particular champagne is dated and single vineyard so there is no blending with other vintages or vineyards in the base wine. After the second fermentation in the cellar, the wine will remain with the lees in the bottle for a full 9 years. The removal of sediment from the bottle is manual and the dosage added is minimal (2 g/l). With the excellent biodynamic management of their vineyards, Larmandier-Bernier achieve perfect ripeness in the grapes so that they minimize the dosage (adding sweetness for balance) which often makes the champagnes heavier or takes them away from the pure capture of the terroir.

Isole e Olena Chianti Classico is yet another example of the finesse and delicacy of the wines of Paolo de Marchi. Fresh and juicy with the classic notes of red cherry, mint and licorice, wrapped around the typical fine tannins of Sangiovese and all this on top of a palate that is overwhelming you with the freshness of its acidity. Elements of smoke and a...

On the one hand, great aromatic and flavour concentration, intensely oily sensation and richness in the mouth. On the other hand, excellent range, air and freshness. Multi-layered flavours and aromas, notes of quince, toast, caramel, along with strong dry-fruit elements. Richly sweet but with terrific lift and spirit leading to an exciting finish with...
