Pataille Marsannay Blanc

The grapes from Sylvain's privately owned vineyards in the different parts of Marsannay are gently pressed and vinified with native yeasts in old barrels where they remain for a total of 18 months. Smoky minerality from the mainly limestone soils, salinity and vibrant energy on the palate lead to tensions reminiscent of a storm at sea. A uniquely precise Chardonnay, engraved with the precision of a laser, from a theoretically less glorious appellation of origin in the Cote d'Or, but in which Sylvain manages to create small “miracles” of absolute pleasure and reasonable prices. From a range of five different terroirs within the appellation of origin, among them fruit from Clos du Roy and En Blungeys, Sylvain Pataille's Marsannay Blanc has volume and thickness but projects more minerality and a more lively character.
