Quinta da Palmirinha Maceration

It would be easier to imagine Fernardo Paiva as one of those young hipster producers who produce natural wines around the world, but that's not the case at all. Fernardo made a great career as a teacher and from 2004 onwards he decided to dedicate himself to making wines on his small 3ha estate in the Sousa Valley of Vinho Verde. Palmirinha is the name of his grandmother who owned the estate since 1909 and very quickly Fernardo, with his minimalist approach, turned it into one of the totems of new Portuguese wine. He is extremely low-key, working ancillary to nature without interfering and his wines are among the new generation of Vinho Verde wines that are changing the face of the region. Maceration is a wine for which the skins were left in contact with the juice for a month. Aromas of quince, orange, floral and the characteristic laurel scent associated with the variety, in a palate with tannins and acidity to support the fruit and balance any flavour intensity. Great, harmonious with a long finish and a soft appetising bitterness.

More info

If anyone can care for and grow healthy grapes in a climate so heavily influenced by the Atlantic, it is none other than Fernardo Paiva. The pioneer of biodynamic farming in Portugal is a true phenomenon in the way he manages not only the vineyard but also his wines in the winery. Since 2007 he hasn't put in sulphites which he has replaced with his signature technique of using ground chestnut blossom from biodynamically also cultivated chestnut trees on his estate to protect the wine. Like all his wines, Maceration is straightforward and direct, with character, accentuated acidity, the result of a terroir in which there is abundant life and health.

Isole e Olena Chianti Classico is yet another example of the finesse and delicacy of the wines of Paolo de Marchi. Fresh and juicy with the classic notes of red cherry, mint and licorice, wrapped around the typical fine tannins of Sangiovese and all this on top of a palate that is overwhelming you with the freshness of its acidity. Elements of smoke and a...

    2003 - Loire - 500ml

On the one hand, great aromatic and flavour concentration, intensely oily sensation and richness in the mouth. On the other hand, excellent range, air and freshness. Multi-layered flavours and aromas, notes of quince, toast, caramel, along with strong dry-fruit elements. Richly sweet but with terrific lift and spirit leading to an exciting finish with...
