Dão is rightly located next to all those magical areas of the planet such as Santorini, Etna, Swartland, Itata, Ribeira Sacra, Gredos and so many more, which the whole world is talking about. It has a history, it is no coincidence that as early as the 20th century it was known as the Burgundy of the south, it has fragmented vineyards at altitudes of up to 800 metres, granitic soils, a cool climate that makes "freshness" the benchmark of the wines, old field-blend vineyards, and is an "ark" of forgotten varieties. So in this magical region, João Costa (Costinha to his friends) & his wife Bea reclaimed João's grandfather's cellar and work old vineyards to make good wine as the cork on each bottle says (Beiorte Gido means good wine in the local dialect). The red Cidade from multiple varieties intertwined in the vineyard is an "ode" to the freshness and complexity that this terroir offers. A wine from the next day of Portugal and the world vineyard.

More info

What a great label. It's worth a thousand words and captures at once what Dão really is. A wall made of granite, the rock of the mountains of the region and the figure of an old woman walking with the help of a cane but with great courage and determination. How better to describe the Portuguese countryside and the dedication of people like João Costa to fight to continue the legacy left by their ancestors. So Cidade is a wine made from Tinta Pinheira, Trincadeira, Baga, Alfrocheiro, a bit of Touriga Nacional, Jaen and some other local varieties in a field-blend. The altitude of the vineyard is 500 metres and the age of the stumps is over 65 years. Winemaking is non-intrusive, with the wines fermented in open lagars with indigenous yeasts and no temperature control. The wine is matured for 15 months in old oak barrels and bottled after being naturally stabilized.

    2021 - Tuscany - 750ml

Isole e Olena Chianti Classico is yet another example of the finesse and delicacy of the wines of Paolo de Marchi. Fresh and juicy with the classic notes of red cherry, mint and licorice, wrapped around the typical fine tannins of Sangiovese and all this on top of a palate that is overwhelming you with the freshness of its acidity. Elements of smoke and a...

    2003 - Loire - 500ml

On the one hand, great aromatic and flavour concentration, intensely oily sensation and richness in the mouth. On the other hand, excellent range, air and freshness. Multi-layered flavours and aromas, notes of quince, toast, caramel, along with strong dry-fruit elements. Richly sweet but with terrific lift and spirit leading to an exciting finish with...
