Envinate Palo Blanco

Like disheveled braids "crawling" into volcanic mountainous terrain at 500-850m altitude from the Atlantic. Nowhere else in the world is there the peculiarity of the cordon trenzado of the Valee de la Orotava region. Palo Blanco comes from four such uniquely aesthetic vineyards in the north-central part of Tenerife. They are over 100 years old and the wine is produced exclusively from the Listan Blanco variety. Palo Blanco seems to specialise more in electric-intensity minerality than in fruit. This is what the stone would taste like if you could ever encounter its liquid form. The wine is a uniquely robust rendition of the mineral, energy and pulsating volcanic dimension that literally explodes in the glass coupled with an incredibly refreshing low alcohol.

More info

The vineyards are cultivated under the supervision of local winemakers and Roberto Santana from Envinate. The harvest, as with all wines, is manual and the grapes are pressed whole in large concrete tanks where they ferment spontaneously. Maturation takes place in two large oval-shaped foudres and concrete tanks, and the wine is bottled unfiltered and unfiltered. Sulphites are minimal. While it has been barreled the wine is not so much broad but more linear and tight with a characteristic austere minerality. The fruit is lemony, crisp and slightly acidic framed by smoky characters. Despite the light alcohol and freshness on the palate, it has excellent concentration and depth with mint and pastille freshness and umami marine minerality reminiscent of shellfish. Here, lovers of minerality and purity will bow without hesitation.
