Envinate Táganan "Margalagua"

61,20 €

The single-vineyard Margalagua vineyard on the northeast coast of Tenerife causes vertigo with its steep slope. The Taganana region is home to some of the island's most historic, oldest vineyards of indeterminate age, so impervious and inaccessible that most will likely never be reborn again. Envinate's Roberto Santana cultivates the Margalagua (meaning Mother of Waters) vineyard with tremendous effort with local vineyard owners who share ownership. An estimated twelve or thirteen varieties are involved in the blend contributing to an attractive red wine with velvety texture, freshness and Tenerife acidity. It has something of the peppery and floral character of a Cote Rotie. But without any of the weight that regularly accompanies Northern Rhone wines.

More info

A complex combination of varieties such as Listan Negro, Listan Prieto, Baboso, Negramoll, Malvasia Nera and other local varieties are blended into the single vineyard which is over 100 years old. This ancient vineyard is autochthonous and the plants are cultivated organically, without support, at an altitude of up to about 250 metres directly above the ocean. The view of the vineyard is unlike anything you have ever seen before. Think uniqueness equivalent to the kouloures of Santorini. Vinification is spontaneous in 500lt barrels with whole bunches and maturation in 228lt neutral French barrels lasts for 11 months with the wine bottled unfiltered, unfiltered and with minimal sulfites. The aromas are a combination of peppery and floral elements backed by a mineral line, along with earthy woodland character and leather reminiscent of Syrah. The "resounding yet crackling" acidity as well as much more lightness on the palate showcase the unique personality of this particular vineyard that is on the edge of not only the cliff but also elegance.
