The vineyard "Pyrovolikes" is one of the steepest slopes in Crete at an altitude of 650m above sea level. The unique topography combined with the more than thirty year old cups of Vilana lead to a different, expression of a predominant white Cretan variety. Here Vilana is not simple, fresh and fruity but concentrated, with depth of fruit and unusual tensions. The transformation of the variety is stunning and it seems that the mountainous terroir is taking over, lowering the usually god-awful yields of the grape. It thus gives a wine with a strong botanical character and fruit concentration that can only be reminiscent of the Cretan countryside.

More info

The grapes with their natural high acidity and excellent concentration of aromas are vinified in stainless steel tanks with selected yeasts. The wine undergoes a short passage in new and old acacia and Caucasian oak barrels with capacities of 500, 400 and 225lt for no more than two months. Spicy notes, cedar and tons of wild herbs and field flowers meet the cool lemony fruit and notes of grapefruit. The palate is rich and creamy in texture with penetrating acidity and a tight, austere but energetic, minerality on the finish. It's as if an electric voltage runs through the entire range of the wine, making it pulsate. By far the best expression of the variety in the whole of Crete.
