Marcel Lapierre Morgon AOC

64,60 €

Connoisseurs consider Lapierre’s Morgon a totem wine of this appellation, a perfectly justified view if one thinks of the seismic changes he brought on during the 80’s. At a time when industrialization had brought an absolute demise on the wines of Beaujolais; practices of organic farming, old vineyards, natural winemaking, indigenous yeasts fermentations helped bring this amazing appellation back to the spotlight. Morgon remains one of the most prestigious crus of Beaujolais with tart acidity and fine tannins that give it an airy feeling on the palate and a fruit expression that reminds of no less than a fine red Burgundy. A true masterpiece, proof of the genius of Lapierre.

More info

Black cherry aromas, licorice and violet intertwined with finesse, paint a sensation of freshness and energy on a canvas of refined silky beautifully structured tannins. And don’t forget to add to that mix the superb stony minerality associated to the Morgon terroir. It is hard to resist the bright fruit of this wonderful Beaujolais at its youth but give it more time in the bottle and it will give you back more and more depth resembling in many aspects its glorious Pinot Noir cousin from a bit up north. The wine was matured for nine months on large Burgundian oak in contact with the lees. The grapes come from the precious old vineyards of Domaine Lapierre in Morgon, on acidic granite terroir. This is an exceptional Gamay at its most noble form.
