    On the hillside behind the Edouard, as its name suggests, this premier cru of Saint Aubin is one of the most famous in the community and owes its name to Olivier Lamy. Within the same block, there is a small portion of Haute Densité, which Olivier bottles separately. The 1er Cru Derriere Chez Edouard is extremely stony in texture and steep in slope. It has a sharp and austere, almost linear, dimension at the start. Tremendous tension, power and tautness but always with a ripeness of fruit that is typical of premier cru vineyards and puts a different dimension on the notion of rigour. Full of energy but perfectly disciplined at the same time, you will need to give it time to unfold its complete personality.

    A pure capture of Olivier's style that plays with the high energy levels in his wines. There is an introversion in this particular vineyard but also an austerity compared to the more exuberant examples from Burgundy (see Meursault for example). But on the other hand, the fruit is really full of finesse and supports the freshness and minerality. 12 months in old barrels complements the primary aromas with more layers of complexity and flavour and like all great Lamy wines it has a very long ageing potential. In fact, it needs it...
