Domaine Champalou Vouvray

True lovers of the Loire owe a stop to Vouvray, an appellation of origin that brings out the uniquely multifaceted character of the Chenin Blanc variety. The Champalou family are fanatical ambassadors of the grape, producing unique wines in many different styles. The almost "chiselled purity" of their classic dry Vouvray reflects their winemaking philosophy. A philosophy characterized by intense elegance and exquisite harmony. Just a "touch" of residual sugars gives a perfectly classic in expression Vouvray, softening the texture of the wine and enhancing this harmony. The result is a magical coexistence of accentuated acidity, characteristic minerality and vivacity, but without a trace of rigour. Best of all, however, is the ageing potential of the wine, which develops a honeyed complexity over time.

More info

The Champalou family's dry Vouvray is a perfect representation of the region's style. It is a textbook example of the Chenin Blanc variety as expressed in this corner of the Loire. Here the chameleonic dimension of the grape, which can display many different "faces", finds its most classic expression. Unripe tropical fruit, fleshy lemons, honey and chamomile lead to a dry palate with lemony acidity and smoky minerality. Minimal residual sugars are meant to eliminate any hint of astringency while maintaining a sense of freshness. A freshness reminiscent of ginger that even draws you in until the very pleasant finish. Give it time. The aging potential of the region's wines is typical, easily exceeding 10-15 years and can go much further.
