In a surprising paradox, Altenberg is visibly soft on the palate, but at the same time perfectly dry on the finish. Nature, this particular vineyard, has "painted" it to be so. A natural combination of power and grace, softness and dryness. The result is this particular grand cru, and the Deisses have no reason to intervene to push, for example, because of a fashion or a tendency to make the wine completely dry when it naturally doesn't "want" to be. A wine that combines honey and apricot botrytis with zesty citrus and lemon in a nose and palate of veritable "fireworks" of aromas and flavors. As rich and sweet as the front of the palette is, the back is the ultimate contrast: dry, airy, fresh, full of energy and minerality with the intense acidity provided by limestone. The grand cru of grand crus! A combination of Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer and the magic of terroir.
