Marcel Deiss Le Jeu des Verts

39,30 €

"Le Jeu des Verts" is the French translation of the Greunspiel vineyard, from which this particular skin-contact (orange wine) comes. The Deiss family uses the French translation of these terroirs for the skin-contact wines they produce from these vineyards and keeps the Alsatian (German) name for their white wines from the same vineyards. Gruenspiel's premier cru (in the Burgundy standards set by Deiss for his vineyards) vineyard is a south-facing amphitheatre vineyard in Bergheim that looks down on the cru of the neighbouring village of Ribauvillé. Here the geology is a real "treasure trove", a mosaic of soils whose age and composition is constantly changing: alluvial deposits of sandstone, granite, gravel and marly limestone. The maceration with the skins lasts 3 weeks, the wine has an amazing length, tannic structure and a shoulder of power combined with an intense mineral stoniness.

More info

The wine comes from a vineyard with a common planting of Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Noir between 1982 and 2002. Fermentation lasts 3 weeks with simultaneous maceration with the skins in tank. The wine is aged for 12 months in foudres and bottled without filtering and without the addition of sulphites. This is one of Deiss' stunning cru d'Alsace with the poetic name of the vineyard referring to the play of colours in design a reference to the heterogeneous nature of the surface soil which is like a real "mosaic". A fantastic wine that combines a fresh minty freshness with honeyed richness and a tannic "hit" on the finish.
