Marcel Deiss Mambourg Grand Cru

100,80 €

One of the grand cru - the most "controversial" - wines of the Marcel Deiss winery in a region where they all follow the same "recipe", the Mambourg vineyard dominates over the village of Sigolheim and is the earliest maturing vineyard. It is a blend of all the Pinots in Alsace and its soils are Oligocene limestone, with an extremely distinctive character that combines tannic strength and complexity. The wine shows power and concentration, with an extremely rich (oily) texture, but despite this dimension it is a grand cru that manages to 'rein in' the levels of ripeness and sugar often associated with this quality level and is dry - almost perfectly - every year. Then comes the acidity, huge, unbridled acidity underlined by an intense phenolic dimension and tannins that relentlessly "attack" the other characteristics of the wine. The energy of Mambourg is like that of small children. It never seems to end.

More info

A "hegemonic" in character grand cru that will stand without any complexity against a great Montrachet of Burgundy. Field blend of Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Meunier, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Beyrot with a high planting density, higher than all the other Deiss vineyards. The cultivation is certified organic and biodynamic and the vinification is done by whole bunch pressing, fermentation with indigenous yeasts and maturation for 12 months in old oak barrels in contact with the lees. Dry, oily, powerful and complex, a benchmark for what a great Alsacian grand cru should be.
