Extremely interesting approach to the much-discussed variety of Cretan vineyard from the new boutique winery Endochora in Chania, Crete. The stems used are up to 50 years old. In fact this is the age of the of the root system. The Vidiano has been grafted onto old autiric vines of the variety Romeiko which dominates the vineyard of Chania. In this way exploits the deep root system of the pre-existing vineyard. The result is excellent. Rich, concentrated fruit, with the character of wild herbs of the Cretan countryside, sage, ripeness and dried apricot. Next to the nice and texture of the wine, the acidity elevates the aromas and energy in the on the palate, leading to a long finish.

More info

Controlled yields per hectare not exceeding 900kg/ha and a gentle winemaking approach using commercial, but neutral, yeasts and careful use of sulphite in the wine. Vinification is followed by a four-month stay in stainless steel tanks where the wine is worked with fine lees enhancing the oily feel of the variety. The acidity accentuates the fruit on the palate which reminiscent of apricot and peach and accompanied by a herbal sensation. Rich, oily but lively at the same time, an excellent expression of the star variety of the Cretan vineyard.
