Antoine Sunier Morgon Magnum

60,10 €

Beaujolais cru's, especially names like Morgon, are a true testament to the concept of postmodern wine. It's not just that in many cases they have come to take their place alongside red Burgundies, which we often cannot enjoy because of price. It's more that they have changed the very concept in our minds of what a great wine is. A great wine doesn't have to be based solely on new barrel, volume and endless complexity, but can captivate with its immediacy, drinkability and pleasure. And Antoine Sunier's Morgon falls squarely into that category. Super-expressive, with an effortless structure and a surprising "fluidity" as soon as it "touches" the mouth. Fine tannins, fine fins, beautifully fresh acidity and fruit full of clarity and expressiveness, concepts capable of captivating alone.

More info

Antoine Sunier's Morgon is from 70-year-old vineyards in the lieux-dit of Grand Cras, one of the most important vineyards in Morgon. Antoine, with the help of his brother Julien, who was present in the area, managed to buy small areas of such old vines. The vineyard is farmed organically and the vinification, whole bunch 100%, a classic for the region, is with indigenous yeasts and without any intervention. The wine is matured for about 7 months in old Burgundy barrels and concrete tanks to "encapsulate" in the bottle wonderful fruit, red and black, notes of smoked meat, liquorice with fresh acidity and a juicy character on the palate framed by tightly bound tannins. Think of it as a step more structured than the same producer's Regnie but with all the expressiveness that Antoine signs in all his wines.
