Sclavos Sweet Mavrodaphne of Cephalonia

35,30 €

Even though Slavos is the pioneer of dry bottling of Mavrodaphne, Kefalonia for the time being grants the PDO Mavrodaphne of Kefalonia Protected Designation of Origin only to sweet fortified wines. The zone extends in different parts of the island (surprisingly also in the southern part of neighbouring Ithaca) but its centre is the peninsula of Paliki. From there, Slavos produces a rare, small-production sweet version of the variety, after drying the grapes. Multi-layered, ripe fruit, reminiscent of figs, notes of dried herbs and excellent freshness on the palate which has a silky texture and is still very young. Perfectly balanced despite its sugars, this is a wine that promises both pleasure and longevity.

More info

From the smallest appellation of origin in Kefalonia in terms of production, it is a stunning example of the variety's potential in the production of sweet wines. Sweet but not bubbly, super fresh on the palate with an ideal balance of sugars and acidity, the sweet Mavrodaphne from Sklavos is a "study" in elegance of style with a dense and solid but not at all heavy character. If until now, next to the name of Slavos you have only thought of dry Mavrodaphne, it's time to see a different look at the variety that has established him among others as one of the top Greek winemakers.
