Aori means "mountain" in the local dialect and this is the name chosen by Emilio Andrey for his project, indicating the search and revival of mountain vineyards in the White Mountains of Chania. He is not alone, since he is joined in one of the most interesting wine projects of the Cretan (and not only) vineyard by Dimitris Skouras, with whom they make the wines and supervise the whole project, from cultivation to bottling.
Their starting point are the old mountain vineyards of the prefecture of Chania at the foot of the White Mountains, at impressive altitudes of 850 meters, whose age exceeds 100 years. Muscat Spinas and Kotsifali from autochthonous vineyards form the basis for two wines, one white and one red. Muscat Spinas is located in its birthplace, the vineyards are impressive and planted on slate soils that elevate the character of the variety, escaping the "boring" character of Muscat and providing the wine with minerality, saltiness and impressively fresh acidity. But where the project really takes off is in Kotsifali, a wine of finesse, fine tannins and crisp fresh fruit with incredible clarity and purity from old, pre-drying stems of the variety. An approach "a la Commando G" that really is perfectly in tune with today.
