Winery 1979

1979 Wines
Wine producers, Real Artists!

1979 Wines was founded by Eleni Kehri, Chemical Engineer and Oenologist and the name of the company is a reference to the year in which the Presidential Decree that created the category Retsina Appellation by Tradition was issued. The concept aims to promote and establish the uniqueness of retsina on a global level and is based on the axes of research, sustainability and innovation. Retsina is a wine deeply linked to Greek history and the modern culture of the Greeks, it exists because it is essentially born from the land itself, it is a natural choice.

Carrying great experience in the production of Retsina, Eleni Kehri comes with the new exciting project of 1979WINES to explore the potential of the style, which is an extremely complex wine due to the synergy of the two raw materials, the grape and the resin. The research is about the two key raw materials in the wine's vinification and the history and culture of Retsina as shaped over the millennia.

1979 is the next day for resin. The results of the research led to Kallos, the first retsina produced from sustainable retsina (without any chemicals) with the flavours of the retsina produced in this way being something completely new in purity and expression. Sustainable resin gives a new dimension to resin, with research in its continuity leading to the separation of terroirs from which the resin comes through micro-communications that keep the vineyard and winemaking parameters the same, changing only the origin of the resin. The road ahead through such projects is staggering and leads Greek wine into the next day. We are not talking about a project that sets new unprecedented quality standards for rescina but sets the way of thinking and approach for Greek wine as a whole.
