Clos Puy Arnaud is a historic estate dating back to at least 1871 in the Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux region, which passed into the ownership of Thierry Valette, the well-known family that owned Chateau Pavie and Château Troplong Mondot, in 2000.
Already from the beginning Thierry, with the assistance of Stephane Derenoncourt, started to apply the principles of organic and biodynamic farming and was biodynamically certified back in 2008.
The estate has 15 hectares of vineyards at the top of the limestone plateau of Castillon which is a continuation of the limestone plateau of St-Emilion and grows the classic right bank varieties of Merlot and Cabernet Franc with smaller quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and forgotten Bordeaux varieties in smaller quantities.
The winery is one of the top wineries in the greater Bordeaux region and despite not being in one of the top right bank appellations of origin is a common secret in the wine world as one of the highest quality Bordeaux wineries as a whole.
Thierry is a great supporter of the concept of terroir and at the winery he does the bare minimum to capture it in the best possible way. During vinification they only try to preserve the characteristics of the vintage and the approach is that of natural wines with zero intervention and minimal sulphites.
From the vin de soif Cuvee de Bistrot to the Grand Vin of Clos Puy Arnaud, the wines are characterized by drinkability and an excellent balance of freshness and ripeness. The winery uses barrels, concrete tanks and amphorae to age the wines, with no more than 15% new oak in any given year. A Bordeaux for true lovers of the region who choose not by name but by their ability to determine the excellent value for money among Merlot/Cabernet blends from around the globe.
